This was a historical election: Now let us move on
I know Imran Khan’s fans are disappointed; as one of them I toally understand their pain. This was a good election and the results are also a clear expression of Pakistan’s digital divide: there is not much twittering or Facebooking going on in our villages and if you are winning on Twitter, it does not mean you are also winning in the dusty streets of Pakistani villages where Imran, Nawaz sharif and others show up only around election time.
Let us move on: this is a victory against those who have previously conquered their own nation at least four times in recent history.

Eight Countries Allow Pakistani Expats to Vote in May 11 elections
Several countries including Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States have agreed to allow Pakistani citizens living in their territories to cast their votes at designated polling stations.
However, the Pakistani election commission, despite the issuance of an emergency presidential ordinance, has declared that it is impossible for them to make the necessary arrangements to include overseas Pakistanis in this election. Our question is simply this:
Yes, the ordinance was passed only two days before elections, but could they have not prepared for this in advance?

This morning (29.11.2012) rumors were ripe at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) that on the directives of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and through the Establishment Division; the contract of the Executive Director of HEC i.e. Prof. Dr. Sohail Naqvi has been terminated with immediate effect and the Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) i.e. Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhary has been asked to take over the charge of the HEC.
Subsequently, Mr. Qamar Zaman visited HEC at 10:00 a.m. and met the Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Javed Laghari in his room in the presence of Dr. Sohail Naqvi (ED) and Dr. Nasser Ali Khan (MEM-OPS). The meeting went on till 11:30 p.m. Although, what ensued during the meeting is still not known but the Secretary (MoET) had the audacity to come out with a smiling face and conveyed the HEC project and contract employees who had gathered outside the
Chairman’s office by that time; that Dr. Sohail Naqvi has indeed relinquished the charge of Executive Director and he thus left HEC.
Once the Secretary MoET visited HEC with his nefarious designs, a team of regular government servants at HEC (a cohort of some 10 people who are behind this entire mischief) welcomed him and were very happy to have hosted him; led him to the Chairman’s room for the subject take over. This team was led by Mr. Ghulam Mujtaba Kayani (acting ADV –FIN) and Dr. Mazhar (DG-Academics) and some other unthankful
blokes who will be the biggest beneficiary of this mischief if Dr. Sohail Naqvi were to relinquish the charge of the Executive Director.
This being a blatant lie; Dr. Nasser asked the PSDP and contract officers of HEC to gather in the HEC auditorium and Dr. Sohail Naqvi also joined him later. They conveyed that Dr. Naqvi did NOT relinquish the charge as yet and the Secretary MoET is himself blowing his trumpet. This has thoroughly aggravated the PSDP and contract employees of the HEC who have given their life and blood to this organization for the last

To date, HEC has sent 4,000+ Master leading to PhD scholars abroad while 7,000+ are studying for a PhD program in some 120+ universities within Pakistan. Currently, a total of 1,240 Overseas PhD scholars have graduated and returned while a total of 1,124 Indigenous scholars have graduated with a PhD within Pakistan and are serving the nation.
These PhD graduates have been returning to their universities, their R&D organizations since 2007 and are slowly and gradually making a dent
in the economy, the educational and the social fabric of the society. If this is the fault of HEC then be it!
Dr. Naqvi conveyed that this sudden attempt of takeover by the Secretary MoET is a contempt of the Supreme court of Pakistan since the Supreme Court had already given a stay against the petition which was filed by Ex-Chairman HEC i.e., Prof. Dr. Atta ur Rahman earlier last year when HEC was being devolved by the current government.
While this news is taking the rounds in the local and the international media, the contract employees of HEC and a few regular government servants who are on the side of the HEC and Dr. Sohail Naqvi are protesting in front of the main HEC building to tell the world what is their crime.
We all know what HEC has done for education in the last 10 years. Incidentally, HEC completed its 10 birthday on 11th September, 2012 and instead of giving more funds to HEC; the current government and its fake degree holders want to bring in a bureaucrat so that HEC can be taught a lesson for not submitting to the whims and fancies of the people who are hell bound to keep the masses uneducated and sell this country for peanuts. This is the time to support HEC before it is too late.
Save HEC, save Pakistan. The choice is YOURS and only YOURS!
